7 Tips to Better Summer Retention

Hot girl summer, the best time to show off your extensions. But with the summer comes some problems, there’s no avoiding the heat and humidity. ‘Tis the season for poor retention. However, your lashes aren’t at a complete loss! There are some things you can do to better your retention!

Here are our 7 tips for better summer retention:

1. Stay dry for 24-48 hours.

Allow the extensions to cure for at least 24 hours after application. This ensures a better bond between the natural lash and the extension. Stay cool, and dry with the additional heat and humidity throughout the summer and early fall.

2. Wash your lashes nightly!

This will help to remove the oils, sweat, and debris that have built up on the lashes throughout the day.

3. Wash twice daily.

If you have oily eyelids or lashes, it's recommended to wash your lashes twice daily after those 24 hours to ensure no additional oils are sitting on the extensions. The natural oils can break down the adhesive leading to premature lash fallout.

4. Use blotting papers.

For those with oily skin or just on scorching days, use blotting papers to prevent sweat from sitting on the extensions for long periods.

5. Wash your lashes properly after swimming!

Lash extensions don't like chlorine or salt. Both can break down the adhesives bond between the natural lash and the extension.

6. Apply sunscreen carefully!

Avoid spraying sunscreens around the face to prevent them from getting near the eyes and/or on the extensions. Apply cream sunscreens carefully, avoiding the eye area.

7. Get your lashes filled regularly.

Yes, this is important in general but even more so in the summer. On average, you’ll lose 3-5 lashes a day and could naturally shed more during warmer months.

It’s not always you or the weather though, remember to let your lash artist know if you are experiencing retention issues. If within 48 hours of application, it can likely be an issue with the temperature and/or humidity in the lash room, the adhesive, or the lash artist. There are many variables when it comes to retention. Work, and communicate with your artist to have these issues corrected.

Hopefully, these tips help this summer!
